Freedom
Pastor Dawn asked three speakers to each give 10-minute sermons on our Liberty core value of Freedom. In a delightful puppet presentation by Susie, a puppy named Shaggy was set free when he asked Jesus to forgive him. Freedom comes at a cost, and our personal freedom from sin has been won at great cost by Jesus on the cross.
Renee reminded us that lining our lives up with the Word of God frees us from the bondage of sin. We have a free will to serve God and to serve others. True freedom is to be more dependent on God, not independent from Him.
Jeff declared many verses showing that clearly Christ wants us to enjoy freedom in every area of our lives. Christ's Kingdom is an "upside-down Kingdom," and that applies to our pursuit of freedom also. As disciples of Christ, we have given up our own free will to embrace His will. We have become bond-servants of Christ and found that we must embrace a higher concept of freedom because our true fulfillment and freedom in Christ is serving Him.
