Reversing the Curse!
Back in the beginning (Gen. 1:28) – God created us in His image and likeness and He BLESSED us. We were created by Him to be like Him, but the enemy came and corrupted the blessings and God’s intentions for us. Man derailed, and believed the lie of the devil, and then came the curse and consequences of disobedience. But even through all that, God had never changed His mind about us. We were still in His image and in His likeness.
Jabez was chronicled in 1 Chronicles 4:9 as a more honorable man than his brethren, but prior to that, his mother called him “grief and sorrow”. She named her child “accursed” in response to her circumstance – which may have been a painful situation. Jabez was known as the guy that would bring sorrow to everything he touched. Despite all that, Jabez never defined himself by his name. He had to know how God rescued His children, how he took them from captivity, established and blessed them. And he saw himself in the eyes of God – as a blessed and honorable man.
To reverse the accursed signature that trailed him, Jabez had to call on the Elohim God – the most high God who rules as God and who has labeled him His own! And Jabez fixed his gaze on God and asked: “Oh, that you would
bless me indeed…” And with expectancy in his heart – he sought the God who is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
But then Jabez didn’t stop at the request of a general blessing, he was specific and further requested that his territory be increased, that he would dwell in abundance and greatness. And in that heart of righteous desperation, he demanded that the hand of God be upon him and his blessings; that no evil might harm him and that sorrow will no longer inflict him. Jabez requested of the Lord – a redefinition of who he was, not just his name. He asked that the curse be reversed.
Jabez understood that he could never lose at the reliance of God’s presence in his life. And the Elohim God granted Jabez’s requests. Even when his name remained Jabez, his being was no longer accursed. If we make the right requests from God, and acknowledge Him for who He is, He will change our lives for good, He will reverse the curse of sin on our lives.
