Matthew 5:16 calls us to let our light shine before men, that they may see our good deeds/works. However, it should end with giving all Glory to God.
Our light is an extension of God’s eminence in us as the Father of Lights. It was its very essence that initiated creation and the creative ability of God in us. The Light of Life at the spoken word quenched and dispelled all of the darkness hovering over the surface of the deep – at the instance of creation; then the formlessness and void-ness of Earth took shape and an in-filling at the entrance of God’s Light.
We, as God’s children are a product of the illumination of God’s word to be that shining light – to keep our world beaming with God’s Glory.
The disciples were also examples of God’s light in the darkness. They all
got lit – on the day of Pentecost when the fire of God’s spirit fell on them; and the whole world had since got enlightened by the contagious light of the Gospel. Imagine if those disciples kept all that fire shut-within their bones and never shared it with the world; we would never have known the Gospel according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Paul, and the rest of the saints who presented the true Gospel of Jesus to us.
We are the light of the world. The scriptures say, no one lights-up a lamp and puts it under a bushel. We have a responsibility and purposeful call to let our light shine that the world may see our good works, but then, that all may be to the Glory of his name!
