I don’t know about you, but obedience is a big word to me. It means:

  • To follow the commands and guidance of
  • To comply with

I remember that growing up as a child, if my parents told me to do something, obedience was not an option. Of course, I had to learn this. No one is blessed with a longing to obey from birth, because the Bible tells us we were born in sin.

John 3:6 AMPC

What is born of [from] the flesh is flesh [of the physical is physical]; and what is born of the SPIRIT is SPIRIT.

We are made up of three parts: body, soul and SPIRIT.

  • Our body is our earth suit. It will be transformed into a glorified body when Jesus returns—so full of His glory, we will not be bound to the natural things.
  • Our soul is our mind, will, emotions, and memories.
  • Our SPIRIT will live eternally.

These three parts will need to come under subjection to the obedience of the Word if we are to walk ALL OUT SPIRIT EMPOWERED to accomplish the will of the Father. It starts with being “born again.”

John 3:7 AMPC

Marvel not [do not be surprised, astonished] at My telling you, You must ALL be born anew (from above).

What Jesus is describing is our need to put our faith in the fact that He is the Son of God, and He came to pay the price for our sin. When we ask Him to forgive us, we are SPIRITUALLY reborn.

The very SPIRIT of God, then, inhabits us and EMPOWERS us to live our lives with the ability to overcome sin and be obedient to what God desires for us as His children.

Romans 8:13-14 NKJV

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the SPIRIT you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the SPIRIT of God, these are sons of God.

The Word of God tells us this is the way we enjoy what He has done for us.

John 10:10 NKJV

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

We know this applies to our bodies, our souls, and our SPIRITS having abundant life. Today we are looking at obedience, so we need to apply that here. Jesus came to give us authority, to help us live abundantly, and to overcome the tactics of the enemy that would keep us bound and unable to live in surrendered obedience.

Many years ago, there was a popular phrase that people used to say. “The devil made me do it.” Many people today still use the excuse that the devil made them do something. But the truth is, we live above the temptations and the burdens of disobedience because we are EMPOWERED by the SPIRIT to live in freedom. We can still choose to sin, but no demon in hell can MAKE us sin.

ALL OUT SPIRIT EMPOWERMENT gives us the ability to obey in the hardest of circumstances.

  • David was able to stand before the giant and defeat him.
  • Abraham was able to lay his son, Isaac, on the altar, knowing his God would raise Isaac up if needed.
  • Peter was able to stand before the religious leaders of the day and proclaim the truth of Jesus with boldness—even if it meant jail time, beatings, and death to his body.
  • Jesus was able to lay down His very life for the will of the Father.

We don’t know what the Lord will ask of us, but today, we must examine our hearts to know if we would be as obedient if it meant something like this would be required of us. We know that most of us would think we could not do the things on that list. That is the point. YOU CAN’T obey to that degree in your own strength.

When you are EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY GHOST, you can do ALL THINGS with supernatural strength and ability. Hallelujah!

  • This world needs to see some giant slayers again.
  • They need to see people willing to give their ALL because of their dedicated belief in their Savior.
  • They need to see those that will face whatever comes their way with boldness and fearlessness because they see the higher truths.
  • And they need to see a people who serve their God in such a way they are willing to live for Jesus and to die for Him as well.

God never asks us to do anything that He doesn’t give us the ability to do. That is why we need to be SPIRIT EMPOWERED.

Jesus knew His disciples would have to live with the help that would come when they were desperate for the promise of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy SPIRIT came, the disciples were changed into those who would live in a way that changed the world.

I am praying and believing that this year God has released to us the truth of being SPIRIT EMPOWERED so we can move into a deeper revelation of who we are WITH HIS EMPOWERMENT. God has released us to be the difference in the world and to be the difference the world needs. We are not just “sometime Sunday folk,” but people of POWER, entrusted with the greatness of the Kingdom of God within us and operating through us, accomplishing much as we go ALL OUT for and with God. Let it be so.

#Spirit-Empowered Prayer:

Dear Lord, this is a sobering word. Help us to be willing to say YES to any and ALL of what You know we should do as You lead us. Please give us SPIRIT EMPOWERMENT as You did the first disciples that enables us to be able to obey without hesitation. Let us stay committed and excited to do Your will on the spot, no matter what the natural conditions are. We will not just talk about You; we long to represent You. Thank You for Your promises that spur us forward. We love You the most!

In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
