Obedience is another important word and aspect in every Christian life. It is a principle of God in both the Old and the New Testament (Covenant).

And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 11:13 NKJV

This is the same commandment that Jesus told His disciples.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment.
Mark 12:30 NKJV

And Jesus goes on to tell us the other commandment that is equally important:

And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:31 NKJV

We have to be ALL IN in our LOVE first for God with all that we are, all that we do, all that we think and we have to be ALL IN in our love for others. Let’s face it, loving God is usually so much easier than loving people, because God is consistent, faithful, kind, and always loving us unconditionally. People can betray, hurt, talk unkind, be unkind, show no compassion and certainly not be very “Godlike” at times. But if you are going to live your life ALL IN, as Jesus is asking us, then we must look at what He says is a priority, not just what is convenient or feels good for us.
Those of us who have been Christians love to talk about the promises of God and how He will pour out the former and the latter rain on us. That means that whatever He has done in generations past will be reproduced to an even greater extent in the present. And that is exciting! But look where that is:
14 then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. 15 And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.
Deuteronomy 11:14-15 NKJV

These are the verses that follow where we started.

And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 11:13 NKJV

In other words, we want to prosper in our natural harvest and in our spiritual harvest, and we will IF we put God first in our lives.

That passage continues with a warning we must also take heed to:

Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them.
Deuteronomy 11:16 NKJV

Those “gods” can be TV, social media, movies, spouses, children, events, etc., and that is because they can take the place as our first priority. It is so easy for us to do in today’s society, that we must constantly be aware and choose to do that which is pleasing in God’s sight at all times if we are going to be ALL IN with Him.The Lord continues by telling us how to not let these other “gods” take priority:

Therefore you shall lay up these words of Mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deuteronomy 11:18 NKJV

We must keep God’s Word in front of our eyes.

You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 11:19 NKJV

We must continually pass them on to the next generations so they can learn to obey and love the Lord God with all their hearts as well.

If we do, look at what the promise is in verse 21:

That your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.
Deuteronomy 11:21 NKJV

God wants us to obey Him for our benefit and for the benefit of all our generations. He is a good, good Father and He is looking out for us.

He has also equipped us with the ability to obey:

Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name.
Romans 1:5 NKJV

How awesome! He has given us His divine influence upon our hearts that enables us to obey Him, and He has loved us so entirely, it causes us to want to love Him right back. If we really are ALL IN, then obedience is just a product of our grateful hearts and it becomes second nature because love is how He operates.

That kind of love has an overflow that will cause us to love in the same way.

Take time right now to think about all of His attributes. It will give you a desire to obey and to arise in your love even now.
