THE CHURCH MUST RECOGNIZE THEIR AUTHORITY
We know that the Holy Spirit lives within us, and that He is the revelator that we need to bring transformation for us to be ALL IN. We can’t do it without Him, but we don’t have to! There is more good news. The good news of the Gospel also carries the transforming power and authority to change others’ lives. It has been given to us as the Church of Jesus Christ!
Matthew 16:18-19 NKJV
Jesus is going to build His Church. The Church is going to advance. The gates of hell and the plans of the enemy will never be able to defeat a blood-bought believer who knows who they are through Him. We have been given keys of power and we have keys of authority. We can unlock the truth of Jesus to others, and we can unlock the gifts that are inside of them as they acknowledge Him as their own Lord and Savior. Oh His power is greater than any power of the enemy! And guess where He lives? Inside of us! Praise His name!
Romans 8:11 NKJV
Jesus is saying that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. When there is a conflict between the power of the enemy and the power of God, the power of the enemy will lose every time.
How do we then live and walk in this power and authority? Instead of the spiritual realm only affecting me, I need to be living in a way that affects the spiritual realm, which in turn affects the natural realm. He wants us to appropriate that power and do His work through that power. He wants our lives to be characterized by the power of God. Say it out loud right now: “The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in Me! I have been given the same authority as He had, and I will use it to bring forth power and authority to deliver others from the power of darkness!”
We don’t need more power, we need to recognize the power that we have already, and we need to release that power to others. There is nothing like the joy of getting others out of that darkness and into His marvelous light. We must walk as those who aren’t asking for the power but are walking in the power. We must be so acquainted with the power that we have been entrusted with, that we just walk in the authority and speak it out. We will see that Satan cannot stop the pure power of God that is on the inside of us.
It could be that we tell the truth of the Gospel of Jesus and see a life changed in the moment through salvation. Or it could be that we set someone free from demons or bondage that they have lived with throughout their lives. What a privilege we have! We just have to live releasing the power we’ve already been given in our union with Jesus Christ through salvation. As the Father sent the Son in the world, the Son sends us in the world. If I’m on earth with the mission of the Father to do the works Jesus did, then I will do so because Jesus made a promise that not only will I do the very works that He did but I’ll do greater works than He did.
The reason Jesus’ power is released and available so much more in the Gospels than it is for us is that Jesus was sensitive to make sure that everything He did and said was in obedience to the Father. He lived in the will of God. He didn’t have a spirit of independence, rebellion or insurrection. He had a spirit of submission to the Father. Each of us should ask, “Do I have any independence in my life? Do I have any lack of submission? Do I have any rebellion?” Jesus understood how important it was that He did not allow rebellion to be in His life. First Samuel 15:23 says that “rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.” Jesus ministered under God’s authority. We must be sensitive that we’re living in proper relationship and alignment with God’s authority.
Romans 8:14-17 NKJV
He told me about his best friend dying two days prior, and that he couldn’t bring himself to go to the church of his childhood since he had called himself an agnostic since he was eight years old because of something the church had done. So I had the opportunity to explain that the “Church” isn’t people in a building, but people that are built upon the reality and revelation of Jesus as Lord, Savior and Friend. I explained that it is about relationship and not about regulations and the law, and that none of us could ever live up to that. That is why Jesus came—to reconcile us to the love and fellowship of the Father as in the beginning, in the Garden of Eden before the fall of Adam and Eve.I could hear him begin to cry as he confessed that inside he really knew there was something “more,” and that there is Someone “higher” than what He had experienced. He was recognizing there really isn’t any “atheist in a fox hole,” because the loss of his friend had driven him to re-evaluate his belief system. He was crying out for truth. He said, “I don’t know what’s going on, but something is.” I told him I knew exactly what it was, because it was the Father revealing His love to him one on one! I was speaking under the power and the authority of the Holy Ghost.I am always amazed as the Holy Spirit guides the conversation and says just what the other person needs exactly at the moment they need it, and exactly how they need to hear it. It is such a privilege! And I can tell you that I hate these phone calls and making decisions about insurance. It is annoying–UNLESS it is orchestrated by God to reach the ONE.You have to stay ALL IN so you can recognize what is going on and speak forth with power and authority! He said, “I hope I don’t get fired over this, but I really needed to hear this today. If you would have called five minutes sooner, you would have gotten someone else.” I responded, “Well the reality is, this is orchestrated by God. And you should just pray with me right now and God will not only bring comfort to you, but He will change you from the inside out.” Right there, on the phone, as he wept, he received the transforming power of God on the inside and he accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior. These were not empty words that were spoken. They were words carrying the power of GOD.
Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
The power of the Gospel is found all throughout the Book of Acts where we see people doing what Jesus did and even greater things than He did. The Church is to be about making statements about the Kingdom of God. After Jesus set captives free and healed diseases, He presented the Gospel clearly and announced the Kingdom of God is here. For us to do the ministry of Jesus, we are going to need a power that is greater than what we possess in and of ourselves. God knew that and that’s why He gave it to us. We have His power right here, right now. It’s settled, sealed, done and complete. We have the very power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead!We need to be able to know how to live in this spiritual realm in a way that affects the natural realm. Instead of the spiritual realm only affecting us while we are in prayer or in Church, we need to live in such a way that we are so aware of the Spirit inside us that we are on purpose affecting the natural realm and looking for those who need to get ALL IN. There are lost and dying people all around us every day, and we need to recognize once again that the Kingdom of God is not just works, but it is POWER.
1 Corinthians 4:20 NKJV
Our lives should be characterized by the power of God.
Ephesians 1:16-19 NKJV
As the Father sent the Son in the world, the Son sends us in the world. Authority is ours not because we deserve it but because we have the position with Jesus that He made possible for us. We are in Him. And He is all powerful. We just need to be totally dependent on Him and recognize that He WANTS to share His power with the world through US. It was always being demonstrated. He sent out His disciples and gave them power.
Matthew 10:5-8 KJV
Then He sent out seventy.
Luke 10:1 NKJV
And finally, He sent out you and me—and every believer.
Mark 16:15 NKJV
Mark 16:17-20 NKJV
All of us have received this authority, and with seamless oneness we can walk it out every day as we depend upon Him.
